Unfortunately, due to the nature of rescue, we do not always know the full background of the Pugs we take in, so we cannot guarantee their health. All Pugs taken into our care have been checked and fully vetted by a veterinarian and we will disclose any health problems that we are alerted to.
The application process from beginning to end could take approximately 4 weeks, depending on availability of the applicant and the volunteer.
Once an application is submitted, our volunteer will contact your Veterinarian and references. Be sure to alert your references that a volunteer will be contacting them and for them to return the volunteers call as soon as possible so the application can be processed in a timely manner. If all goes well, our volunteer will call to schedule a home visit.
ALL members of the family are required to be present during the home visit Our volunteer will need to meet everyone at that time and will need to verify that your home is safe and suitable for a Pug. In the case where all family members cannot attend, the visit will need to be rescheduled .
Once the volunteer completes the assessment, a report will be submitted to our board of directors for review. Please be patient, we are all volunteers and we know how exciting it can be to adopt so we do all we can to quickly get all the steps done so you can start enjoying your new family member.
Our Pugs do not have AKC papers. The Pugs we get come from many different people and environments and most of the time we have no knowledge of the life they lived before
We are a 'foster based' rescue and do not have a facility to house them in. We do have "Meet & Greet" events (most every month) to allow fosters to bring Pugs and for prospective adopters can meet and play with them. Please check our EVENTS page for our upcoming Meet and Greets!
Yes. Home visits are required before you are allowed to foster or adopt. These visits allow us to see the environment in which the Pug will live. We must make sure your yard a permanent secured fence. Apartments do not need a private secured fence.d an answer to this item.
We charge an adoption fee to help cover our intake and medical costs. Your Pug will come fully vetted with all vaccines and will be spayed or neutered.
Our contract states you must return the Pug to Homeward Bound should you no longer be able to care for them.
Very similar process to adopting. The first step is to complete our foster application. A volunteer will contact your personal and vet references and set up a home visit with you once those checks are done. Make sure to notify your references to let them know someone from Homeward Bound will be contacting them.
In most cases this is allowed.
Most importantly, you will be expected to keep the Pug safe and secure. You will be required to bring your foster to all of our Meet and Greet events so people can meet the Pug for possible adoption. We provide all necessary medical care for your foster. You are responsible for providing all food, bedding, toys, etc. You are also responsible for transporting your foster to and from veterinary appointments. We also ask for you to communicate to us on your fosters behavior, how they are doing on potty training and how they are with other animals in your home as well as the people who live there.
Many Pugs in our foster homes are housetrained but we will let you know if your Pug is not or is having issues. Sometimes, leaving home, transitioning to a foster home and then moving to the adoptive home is stressful and will cause dogs to regress in their training. Fosters will work with the Pugon house training and communicate to us on their progress.
